Hello…You need to go to the website for the New York State Education Department Office of Teaching Initiatives. Their website will provide all the necessary instructions about how to apply for the TSLD certification. There are various tracks to follow depending on your situation, but basically you will have to fill out the application, send copies of your credentials, show proof of completing two required courses related to child abuse prevention and reporting, and send them original transcripts from all your colleges. They will have to review the application and determine what else you will need to get your certification. However, be aware that it is NOT quick. You may have to wait up to 4-6 months before you even get a response from them. They don’t respond to email and their phone system disconnects you rather than putting you on hold to wait for a representative to assist. Bottom line…The office of teaching is the WORST example of govenmental beauracracy in existence. You might be able to get the process expidited a little bit if you can have the superintendent of the school contact them through some special phone number. You may also have better success going through the regional certification offices, which are usually located at the BOCES office in your county. Good Luck!!
