Foreign friend wants to go to U.S College?

My friend lives in S.Korea and he really wants to go to a U.S College, and he is in desperate need of requirements to enter a college here. He is studying for the TOEFL, but other than that particular test he is clueless as to what he needs to get accepted here, what exactly are requirements for a foreigner to enter a U.S college?

Aside from the admissions requirements, he will also be required to show that he has sufficient funds for at least one academic year. This means that he will be required to show a bank statement that shows enough money to pay for tuition, books and room and board. Each college determines the budget required to attend school.

He will also be required to provide a valid passport. After he is accepted, he will be issued an I-20. Then he will be required to pay a SEVIS fee of approximately $100 online. Then he would take his I-20, receipt for payment of SEVIS fee, his acceptance letter and his passport to the U.S. Embassy in South Korea to apply for a student visa (F-1 visa). He may be subjected to an interview by embassy personnel.

He will also be required to provide his medical records to show that he has the immunization requirements of the school. International students are also required to have comprehensive medical and accident insurance for the duration of their studies.

Tell him to contact the U.S. Embassy in South Korea and the school he is interested in applying to for more information. Keep in mind that the application deadlines for international students are much earlier than for domestic students.

Best wishes to you and to your friend!
