Does a ‘D’ count at University of Houston?

I’ve been told that D’s do count as passing a UH but then I’ve heard they don’t. I used to go to SWTSU and only C’s counted as passing. Does anyone know FOR SURE? I need to know if a ‘D’ will count as passing at UH. I have a couple of d’s on my transcript and don’t have the money or time to retake them. Thanks!

Hi! I believe that at any university in the U.S., a “D” is not failing and counts as normal credit. However, it drags your GPA down. I think UH is a private university? Can you talk to your class advisor and explain everything that you’ve told us here. Tell him/her what was going on in your life at that time. Tell them honestly about your financial situation. Tuition at private universities is very high. Perhaps, they can work out a payment plan. Also, ask them how they will calculate the new grade. Does the new grade replace the old grade or do they merge (average) the two grades together. Your future employers will want to see that you tried your best despite the numerous hardships you faced. Wishing you the very best!

It counts enough to lower your GPA. But I think an F, meaning FAIL is the only one that wouldn’t count as passing.
