CPA Exam with BS in Finance?

I live in MD with a B.S. in Finance and International Business…right now I am doing accounts receivable for a pharmaceutical services company. I want to become a CPA but i only have 2 classes in accounting and 123 credits from University of Maryland-College Park. What would be the best way to get my CPA and get the credits I need to sit?

In short, you will still need more classes. Here are the requirements in order to sit for the exam in MD.

Baccalaureate with 150 semester hours

* at least 27 semester hours of accounting and

* a minimum of 30 hours in related subjects

DC has similar requirements:

Baccalaureate with 150 semester hours

* 24 hours plus 3 hours in Business Law

You will obviously need more hours in Accounting. I am assuming that you have only had Acct I and II (or the equivalent at your University). Specific classes to take would include Intermediate Acct I and II, Cost Acct, Audit, Tax I and II. In addition, you could take some easier acct classes like Small Business Acct or Computerized Acct Problems. These classes will get you to the required hours and help prepare you for the exam.

With a degree in Finance, I am assuming that you have had Business Law I and II. If not, you will want to take both of these as well. The REG section of the exam covers Tax and Business Law.

Since you already have a degree, most (if not all) of these classes can be taken from a junior college which is easier and cheaper.

Good Luck!

I am a CPA from New York. Each state has its own requirements. In New York you need two years of experience or 1 year of experience and an undergraduate and graduate in accounting to waive one of experience. See what your home state requires. If you seriously want to be a CPA then one occupational requirement would be to join a CPA firm to get experience. Another part of the equation would be to contact the Accounting department of your school and ask what additional courses you should take. Finally, you should contact your state department of education for the professions and ask what is required to attain the license to become a CPA. It is a long process, but it is career direction. It will take you time to get the courses and then it might take you time to qualify to take the exam. It is totally different now than when I took it. It is given on the computer a number of times a year. When I took the exam it was given twice a year in May and November. The content is similar but the administration of the exam is much more complex. Good Luck.

You wont qualify for an MS accounting application with no need taken the undergrad coursework for accounting which includes intermediate/enhanced financial, taxations, fee, and auditing, so which you would be able to desire to take those courses first besides or by way of a placed up-grad accounting certificates application. you do no longer desire a masters degree according to se, yet you will desire one hundred fifty total credit hours (in each little thing you have taken in college) and 33 hours total in accounting itself.
