Apartment Pros

1.) You’ll gain more freedom and less likely to have parents giving you the 3rd degree.

2) You’ll become more independent and learn to take care of yourself.

3.) You’ll have more privacy/room.

4.) You’ll become more mature and responsible because you’ll have to make sure to pay bills on time.

5.) You can move closer to campus.

6.) Can have friends over anytime you like.

Apartment Cons

1.) You’ll be paying rent, utilities, food, etc.

2.) You may have to get a roommate.

Living at Home Pros

1.) It’s less expensive than an apartment.

Living at Home Cons

1.) You’ll have less freedom and privacy.

2.) You’ll probably keep relying on your parents.

In my opinion, if you can afford it get an apartment. It’ll allow you to grow up and experience college to the fullest.

I know what you’re feeling… I went to a school close to home last year(freshman), and it had its positives and negatives. This year I moved away and I’m living on my own in an apartment off campus, schools do consider this while doing financial aid. I get a little more money for school, I work and use what I get extra from school towards expenses. I live in student housing, it’s not strict like dorms by any means, but it inlcudes most utilities except a $50 electric bill every month.

Sure, you’ll spend a little more money getting an apartment, which is still much cheaper than any dorm! You can get an apartment close to the school, and even walk to classes as I do. Living at home I found more distractions for not doing my homework. While at the apartment I worked hard and I felt independence while expierening the college life as every student wants to.

Sure you have to pay bills, but it’ll help you grow plus you’ll be more independent plus you’ll have lots of fun!!!! get a roomate.! this way you can chose who YOU want.

living in an apartment you’ll be able to furnish it how you want

you’ll have a say in what you buy and what you eat

you can come home as late as you want without fear of disturbing your parents

you’ll pay the bills

you’ll pay the rent

living at home will mean that you’ll live with however your parents decorated the place and the only place that will be truly yours to decorate will be your own room

you’ll have food that M&D bought with somewhat of a say in what they get

you’ll always be aware that if you get home late your parents will know or be concerned about you

they may or may not ask you to help pay for the groceries or bills

Theres a sort of stigma attached to those that live at home with their parents after a certain age that other countries don’t have

Living at home isn’t a bad thing and at times- it helps especially in times of transition (i.e. coming back from college or switching jobs or having a crisis in your life) its not a bad thing to live with your parents, but it will be a challenge

Living at home:

-is less expensive than getting an apartment (save $ on rent, utilities, food, etc.

-you may have more time to study.

-you will have your parents to talk to whenever.

-you will live near your friends.

-you still have your own room.

Getting an apartment:

-more expensive (where will the $ come from?)

-you may have less time to study (cooking, cleaning, etc.).

-you move away from your friends.

-you share your living space.

Both have their positives and negatives. Just remember the reason you are going to college is to learn and keep that in focus as you make your decision/s.

Best wishes.

Having an apartment is one of the first steps of growing up – having roommates hustle you – learning how to cook and manage time – that’s what life is all about and why you’re going to college.
