associate degrees? what is this….?

You get a 2 year AS or AA degree in a major field that is usually acceptable to most State Colleges in your State and partially acceptable for most Private and State Universities.
The advantages are the classes are smaller (30-40 students vs up to 700 for some college courses in an auditorium), the school is more compact (you may have 10 minutes to travel 2 miles at a university to your next class).
It’s cheaper (about $60 per class instead of $400 – $800 per class at a college or University)
The only downside is they may still take role and drop you after 1-3 missed classes as they are still Federally Funded based on attendance.
At those 700 student courses they don’t know if show up or not.
The Community College main thrust is the technical field in medicine. You can become an RN, LVN, X-Ray Tech, EMT, Paramedic, Inhilation Therapist at some (not all) JCs
The Associate’s Degree is a two-year degree (which you can get after high school). Many times, you can get that first and then switch into a similar major and receive your bachelor’s degree in two years after that.
The other degree is the Bachelor’s Degree which is a four-year degree. You usually need to have a Bachelor’s Degree in order to go to graduate school.
Alot of people who choose Associate’s Degrees are basically going to college to expand their knowledge in the field of their choice but do not neccessarily need four years to do it. A good example would be my boyfriend. He’s going back to school for Landscaping. It’s a two-year associates program and the reason for that is because Landscaping is one of those jobs where you’re better off working out in the field then sitting at a desk but it’s always good to learn about what you’re working on. He will then go on to get his Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture which requires a four-year college term.
Sorry for the long-winded answer. Hope that helps.
Congratulations for continuing your education.
Common 2-year programs include business, some medical jobs, computers, and paralegal.
