parties…there are always parties going on…and also get a meningitis shot if you are going to live on campus there…
um there is lots to do in that part of florida…everything is within reach…but you will NEED a car…..
once you are accepted check out the campus if possible…and talk to the locals…and FYI…it is a very large campus as well…
No it is not very difficult to get into mainly because it is a public school and on top of that it competes with the University of Florida, Florida state university, and the University of Central Florida for the best in-state kids who wish to remain in the state. If you have decent a decent gpa (3.0 or higher) and decent SAT scores (anything over 1000 on the math and verbal combined) you’ll get in most likely. It is probably the 4th best florida public university beating out FIU, FAU, UNF, and UWF easily. If you want to go to a private school you need to leave florida as Rollins, Stetson, and Eckerd are sadly the best options.
good for computer science?
I don’t know why people ask if a certain program is good and think that makes a difference. I mean that type of thing only matters when the school is top notch. USF is a public school. You get what you pay for. But it is a big school which means that it almost definitely will have decent sciences and decent computer technology majors. Basically (not always true but most of the time) small to medium-sized schools are better for liberal arts related stuff and the top smaller to medium-sized schools also have good math and sciences and computer stuff. Big public schools are usually not good for liberal arts kind of stuff and are better in math and science kind of stuff. So USF most definitely has a decent computer science program—not that it is going to be anything better than average since it is USF we are talking about here (I’m not knocking the school. It’s solid if you want a job in-state when you finish, but it’s not ivy league or even a top 50 public school for that matter.
good parties?
There are 35,000 students (undergrad). You better believe it they have good parties and with the football program improving, games plus beer on saturdays in the fall and winter will be fun for you. Enjoy it.
anything?
That is about it. If you want a big school atmosphere and you can’t get into UF, F-State, or UCF go here. It’s a decent school with only recognition in-state. But I will add that in maybe 20-25 years this school will have risen in the rankings much like UCF has been doing for a few years now. UCF is a school on the rise now, while USF has the potential to rise in the near future due to the demand for in-state public education in Florida. This demand is fueled one because of the population of Florida, and two because Florida lacks any credible national private schools (which suprises me given its relevance as a state—I would expect a state like Arkansas to not have decent privates schools but not Florida)
Nonetheless good luck kid and remember college isn’t as great as it is portrayed, but there are some good times anyways like football games in your case. Have fun and support your Bulls if you decide to go there.
A general rule of thumb is that directional schools aren’t that great. If you had a State named Bob, then The University of Bob would be the best public university in the state, Bob State University would be the second best public school, and directional schools like Northern Bob State Unversity and University of South Bob are usually not as good. But they are better than bi-directional universities like Southwestern Bob State University.
Florida is no different. The University of Florida is their premier school. FSU is a very good (but not great) university. UCF, USF and the other state universities are OK — but US News has them in the right place — in the third tier. The average undergrad has SAT scores of 1100 and graduated just above the middle of his HS class.
Anyone who puts it in the top 100 is deluded — or has been bribed.
