What does vinegar have anything to do with dyeing easter eggs?

I am doing a school project on different methods to dye easter eggs. I need to write a paper on it, too, and i need to know what vinegar has to do with the way the egg turns out. (like what does the vinegar do?) Please help!

Vinegar is an acid, the weak water & vinegar solution that you dye eggs in breaks down the smooth outer waxy-looking layer of the outer shell and makes it easier for the dye to seep into it. If you actually leave an egg in vinegar long enough, the acid will dissolve the entire shell.

The vinegar makes the solution acidic which helps the dye work more effectively, so you would get a more intense color.

It is just a catalyst, which makes the process of dyeing faster.
