What is the typical 4th grade student like?

I’m wondering what the struggles, strengths, typical interests,… are for 4th grade students. I’ve taught middle school (5th-8th) for 7 years, thus I have some idea about what makes them tick, but I’m teaching 4th grade this year so things will be new. I’d like to have an idea of how 4th graders function before I start the year.

Fourth graders are starting to understand how things “really work” in our society. The atmosphere of the classroom becomes much more personality strength oriented and your leaders start to really kick in. That means your followers start to really kick in, too. The balance is a little harder to maintain, but it is a wonderful challenge to help parents of followers hone in on their children’s capabilities and help them get confidence in their gifts. The leaders need a lot of help getting their skills in “tact” and seeing the value in allowing others to have their own ideas. It is still really important to fourth graders to know they please you and it makes for a wonderful group!

I’ve taught all age levels, and really, 4th grade is one of the best. Old enough to understand how a classroom runs, but young enough that they still adore you. They might be a bit rowdy from time to time but take it with a good sense of humor and you will be a hit.

4Th grade students are energetic and loves to tease each oTher..

they are also starting to discover changes in their body and as a teacher you should tell the class that these changes are normal. i have a girl cousin and when she was in 4th grade she started to have hairs in her underarms.then her classmates saw this and start to tease her.that is why my cousin developed inferiority complex.too sad.until now that she is in college, the trauma is still there.
