Uni + Teaching?

I was just wondering, is it absolutely necessary to study @ uni first if you wanted to start teaching? I’m not really sure what I want to do but it’s been on my mind a lot lately (I got inspired by my new IT teacher, he’s only in his mid-20s & we have a lot in common so I’ve spoke to him a lot more as a friend than a student, he’s made me think teaching would be pretty fun)… I’ve just never really wanted to go to university, it’s not the kinda place I’d like. Is there any other way? I’d be most interested in music (&I have a bit of experience teaching piano now if that helps) but like I said it’s just something I’ve been thinking about, I’m still not sure. I’m 15, if that matters… thanks

Your current age doesn’t matter, but great that you are thinking now about what you want to do later. If you want to be a teacher, regardless of the subject, you will need to have credentials to be successful. You will have to prove that you know what you are talking about. Most school districts not only require you to have a university degree, but they also require a teacher certification to teach the level that you are interested in (elementary, middle school, high school, etc.). Teaching can be fun and rewarding, but doesn’t always pay as much as some other jobs. Money is not everything, if you are happy doing what you do. I enjoy teaching, it is great.

Yes. You really do need the teacher training. Teachers without this training are the least successful, and so are their students.
