There’s some woman my friend Stephanie is related to who was a teacher, than principle, then school board member, but the thing is, she absolutely hates kids! Why would you do that?! That’s like being allergic to strawberrys, yet going out and buying a fridge full! How retarted do you have to be, seriously?

Okay, I am a teacher. Let me try to help. Sure, teachers and students can be mean, they are human. Remember, you can not change the other person; the only thing you can change is your reaction to them. You have the power to make the choice if you are going to feel like an idiot or not. Is your nick name and calling yourself an idiot a clue to how you treat yourself? You have to own your feelings and not blame others as they do not have that much power over you to make you feel stupid. Sometimes students are just too easily embarrassed or hurt. Develop a friend and a plan to help yourself become emotionally stronger. Sometimes humor helps.

By no means am I defending harsh teachers. And to be honest, I did not “get” this until much later in life. So, if you can learn this now you will be ahead of the game. Since you can express yourself and your concerns so well here, why don’t you assert yourself and talk to the ones involved. Ask your harsh teachers if you can help them have a better day (or something appropriate– just be sure to not sound sarcastic here!)? This may not be the answer you wanted to hear, but I trust your self-esteem will improve and you have a great year.

Okay here is the deal: you know the teachers that are too nice? Have you ever been in a class like that? Students are kitting each other, people are talking, the teacher is flustered and can’t teach you?

THAT is the fear of a teacher. We are afraid if we are too nice we will be taken advantage of. So we strive to be strict (not mean, you may see it as mean, but it is actually strictness).

Here’s the other thing: we all actually really care about you guys. We want you all to be successful people. If we coddle you, you will have a very hard time making it in life. Trust me, I wasn’t always a teacher. In business, if never mattered how hard you tired, only if you made money. It is a harsh world and we teachers are trying to give you the tools you need to be happy in that world.

I have a reputation as a “strict” teacher. I know I do. but I will also tell you I care deeply about my students. I would risk my life for them. I pull all nighters trying to come up with lessons that will work. But I can’t show this. If I do, students try to push the limits. Last year I had a student ask me if I were drunk. I HAD to jump all over him on that. If he said something like that to a future boss, he would lose his job. i had to teach him it is just not okay to say such things.

So that’s my story. I’m strict, but I really care. Most teachers do!

OK, I am a teacher…you know yourself that not all teachers are like what you described. Some teachers are meaner that others, true, but most are very sincere in their duties to students. I love teaching and I love doing my job, wouldn’t have it any other way. Some teachers suck, no doubt…be strong!

I agree and I am an older woman with children grown. My kids used to tell me things and I would get so upset, but they would beg me not to go to the school because it would embarass them. Now the tell it again and I still get so mad when I see some of those teachers!!!!!!!!!!!!! They should have to pass one test first thing: DO YOU LIKE KIDS>????????? If they say no they need to change their careers!!! Talk to your parents abou tthem
