Mr./ Ms. Teacher;

I’ve been involved in a recycling project that does ( fill in the blank) .

I really want to be involved at the Y thingeee, but it conflicts with 30 minutes of your class.

IS THERE A WAY I COULD DO THE WORK EARLY, OR DO EXTRA HOMEWORK, OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT TO MAKE UP FOR MISSING THE CLASS?

THE CLASS AND THE RECYCLING EFFORT ARE BOTH IMPORTANT TO ME.

( chances are, that will work, and you probably won’t even get extra homework.)

Is the “recycling thing” actually a school sponsored event or just put together by kids? Is there a teacher supervising the event? Extra-curricular events should be scheduled after classes so you won’t have to miss class. If the event is an official school event, then the adult supervising it should be willing to provide a note excusing you from class (which you can give to the teacher).

Bring a note from the staff member responsible for the project as soon as you know you will be missing class. Go to class early or else go to the teacher’s office during office hours. Make sure you don’t wait until the day of the class you’ll be missing, and don’t spring it after class the day before, either!

“I have a project that is going to require me to miss class on XXXday…can I make arrangements with you to be sure I can keep up?”

Speak to your teacher before or after class. It would be appropriate for you to have a note from the teacher sponsor requesting your excuse. Indicate that you will make up all work missed and give advance notice if you can.

Heres the plan.. and it works everytime.. You just have to have some balls to do it.. What you do is right before you need to leave you hold your stomach and ask to go to the bathroom.. and come back into the class in a minute later telling your teacher that you started your period and that you are bleeding everywhere.. Hes a guy, so it will embarass him and let you out of class. Good Luck.

Best – at least several days ahead, get a signed request from the person responsible for the ‘recycling thing’ for your teacher to release you for the necessary time.

That you “have” to do?

Have your parent write a note expressing such, and OK it with the main office.

present a letter to your attendance office and they should issue an excuse, if not have your parent call and get you excused.
