From an honor student who got the lowest grade ever in history: Make history come alive. Don’t just give us dates and events and then test us on whether or not we can match them up. Act out events, have the kids play parts. Make it fun and interesting, not dull and boring. Tell it like a story, so the kids can visualize it happening right now. Relate it to present times. What effect did it have on current events? If it’s more recent history, have someone who participated in that event come into the classroom and talk about their part in the event.
Use your creativeness and run with it!

When I was in HS, my best teacher was my history teacher. She made us understand the trends of history, not just the facts and figures. She was also lively, literally dancing around the room to get her points across. She also divided the class into teams to compete against each other as we argued various aspects of history.
She had each student, for one week, get up in front of the class each day and report on 3 or 4 topics relating to current events while the rest of the class took notes. This info was sometimes incorporated into tests. Its also forced the class to view current events from an historical perspective.

well I suggestr that you have a little joking around let them have snacks and have drawings at the end of quraters and give extra credit to whom brings supplies and sweets to the class. This will actually make your class have a better grade because they would be busy doing work and having fun eating…….
I am a student and I have a teacher just like this and it is better to get a students opinion rather than a teachers because they are more accurate……
And if this just messes up everything then stop it for a whil(2 weeks)O and see what happens and which classes deserve this….

my honors histiry teacher doesn’t believe in books. so he doesn’t teach us out of the except for the things that are going to be on the state assessments. he makes us go to cagle.com to find political cartoons.
