I’m starting middle school (6th grade) tomorrow, any tips?

Rule #1: OVERPLAN, OVERPLAN, OVERPLAN! I know that it is exhausting, but that is the first year of teacher, so prepare for a wild ride by overplanning as much as possible, ESPECIALLY for the first day! I am literally preparing a breakdown of every 15 minutes for that “first day” stuff–much of it from Wong and Wong’s “First Days of School”
Rule #2: Get a project going ASAP. It could be a novel, a group map, whatever. The weakest area of a newer teacher is pacing: I’m sure you’ll have a day in the first month (if not week!) where you have planned something to last an hour and it’s over in 15 minutes. Having an ongoing project can give you breathing room AND always gives them work to do.
Rule #3: Ask for help/feedback/assistance/points of view as much as possible! You’ll find out who the grouches are to avoid, so avoid them–but a good teacher will always be happy to help you. Heck, a good teacher will feed off of your newbie energy!
Rule #4: If you are a first-time teacher, don’t feel like you are the first one to ever be imperfect! Everyone should remember what it was like to be in there the first time!
Good luck!!! ๐ ๐
Edit: Hope that first day went well!
I am starting seventh grade in September, It should all be fine!
you may seem a bit nervous on the first and second day but don’t sweat it! you might make some new friends and all you have to do is stay focused! do your homework, study, and have fun! it should be really great!
