I am interested in teaching English overseas. How do I find a reputibale and trustworthy school or agency?

I have a 4 yr degree, teaching experience and travel experience. I have met all of the requirements for an overseas teacher.

You should contact a reputable university and ask if they have any organizations they work with.

Where are you planning on teaching? Russia? Asia? Latin America? There are good and bad schools everywhere.

Depending on your country of choice, you might be better off just doing private lessons. They can be inconsistent but they pay a lot better and you know that your students really want to learn.

Since you already have teaching experience I don’t have to tell you that classroom discipline can be a problem. Add in a classroom of English learners and it can be positively chaotic, especially if they are teenagers.

I strongly urge you to have a solid grasp on the native language of whatever country you are going to. If you don’t, you will be in for a world of pain both in and out of the classroom.

Good luck.

If you are interested in teaching in International Schools, check out Search Associates or the Council of International Schools for job fairs and down-loadable applications. Search has a small fee to register, I think CIS is still a free service.

If you want to teach in a private language school, one way to make sure you’re with a good school is to look at British Council accredited schools. Otherwise, you could try getting posts in mainstream education – secondary schools or university.

There’s a good site called tefl.com – but you need to pick and choose.

Google Dave’s ESL cafe, they tend to have decent program, just sign up and cruise their forums.
