Can I just take the NYS CST exam?
I was told by collegue that I can just take the NYS CST exam in Earth Science even though my degree is in History. If I pass it, I can teach Earth Science, if I fail, well then I know I need to take more Earth Science classes.
Is this true that I can take a CST outside of my field and get the certification to teach that subject?

I don’t believe that to be true. You need, as a minimum, a four year accredited degree and check for local requirements for the district that you wish to teach in.
