I am a room mom looking for suggestions for Parentback to school night?

I am a new room mom for both of my sons classes this year. We are having back to school night next week and I need to bring in some nutritional refreshments for the parents and make a sign up sheet so that I can create a class roster/contact list for the class. I was wondering if anyone had any creative suggestions for the sign up sheet, to make sure that the parents see it and sign up on it. I also have to make volunteer sheets and a drop box to put them in. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

We just had our open house a few weeks ago, and our turnout was great. I’m surprised that you were put in charge of this, but it sounds like you’re going to be a great room mom! 🙂 Anyway, I have premade sign up sheets if you would like them. I could email them to you.

We had to do this for 50 SETS of parents (my partner and I combined ours), and it went very smoothly. We made 2-3 copies of each page and clipped them to a clip board with a pen for each board. We left them at opposite ends of the room so that groups of parents had room to wait to sign up. No one complained and it gave them a chance to talk to each other and check out the rooms.

For the sign in sheet we requested they PRINT their names and the name of their child, since half of students today may have parents with a different last name, and also, we wanted to be able to read who in the world they were…. signatures can be difficult, so we cut that out. Next to their child’s name we had a line for any email addresses they wanted to give us, and I would stress again to PRINT legibly. You could also add a line for their phone number (best to reach them at) and then ask what time is too late to call. They really appreciate this!

I have two different options for the Volunteer sheet, but we only used one. The one we chose to use had various options a room parent could be used for, and the parent just wrote their name under any they wanted to do. Several parents ended up being involved in all kinds of thigns, and others only chose one or two. The nice thing is now, as a teacher, all I have to do when I have a new project is check the list and make a few quick calls or emails and bada bing bada boom, it’s done.

Please let me know if you would like either of these, if you think they would help you out. Good luck!
