How can I make my grammar lessons more interesting?

I teach teenagers in Advanced Level (According to ESOL, they are being prepared for CAE). Sometimes I myself feel tired of my lessons, because the exercises are long, tiring and even boring.

The main problem is that I CAN’T assign all of that as homework, and, obviously, these guys know beforehand almost every single aspect of English grammar.

But we need to use the books and complete the exercises, of course…

I found a couple of articles from the one stop english website that might be of help.

Get the hell out of the book. These are just sentences, you can make them up. Why are you boring yourself and your students with the sentences the (most likely unimaginative) author crammed in there when you can make up your own? Try using using popular song lyrics if possible. If you can connect to their world you will have their attention. You could also make up odd or goofy sentences or have the students make up entertaining ones.

You have to follow the curriculum, not the book.

Use example sentences from modern lyrics.

Most of the lyrics sentences or phrase usually has fragment sentences.

It would be entertianing to kids if teachers were able to pick up some modern music lyrics and use them as a simple example of good and sometimes bad.
