Without knowing the state in which you are seeking the credential, I am assuming the CSET is the California Subject Examination for Teachers.

If my assumption is correct, the answer may be “yes” depending on the specific credential you are seeking. Learn more about this at http://www.cset.nesinc.com/CS13_certrequirements.asp

You didn’t ask about CBEST (California Basic Education Skills Test), but this should also be on your list. Learn more about this one at http://www.cbest.nesinc.com/CA13_requirements.asp

And just in case you may need to triple check your checklist for completeness, here is the link to the CA commission on teacher credentialing http://www.ctc.ca.gov/credentials/

Hope this helps you…best wishes in your pursuits.

In California…Yup, you need it. If you are doing single subject…jr hi or hi school, you take your area of study. If for k-6, you take the multiple subject cset. You should have had to have taken it and passed it to get in a credential program and if by some off chance you are able to skirt it while in one, like you have subject matter competency…(i do and still had to take it), any district that you apply to in California will require it, NCLB you know.

It’s not that hard at all. You will do fine. Think of it as a Jeopardy game OR are you smarter than a 5th grader…LOL. One tip, I had to do an essay on Confucianism, for the history part, or was it humanities…hmmm…Anyhow, for some strange reason I knew it would be there and someone else told me it would be on it too so I feel it’s my duty to warn you too, OK? LOL! Read the study book and you will do fine.
