Need Some Help with Volunteering…?

Right now I’m going to school to become an

(elementary-K-3rd) school teacher and need some experience working with kids, volunteering, or helping teachers, do you have any advice that would be helpful? Such as, how I should approach volunteering at my local elementary school? Interview tips, etc..

Most schools are grateful to have volunteers. Call the school office and ask. You may have to have a back ground check. I used to volunteer and I got to do a variety of stuff, like reading groups, taking the students outside, one on one help, and even substituting. I enjoyed it so much I became a teacher.

You could also work in an after school program. These are held at schools, churches, or community centers. Many times they need tutors for these.

Would you be interested in working with 1st graders in an online classroom? Our organization is entirely volunteer-based so we can offer our classes free to families. I am teaching a first grade phonics class of four students. I also teach a first grade math class of about six students. Both classes are in the online classroom. It is a really fun environment. We have full duplex audio, so you will need a mic/headphone. If you are as visual and kinestheic as I am, you will love teaching with the online classroom’s interactive whiteboard. It is easy to make fun, game-like activities to reinforce the concepts that are being taught. Not to mention, you can teach in your PJs from your own home computer. LOL.

In our classes we have kids from California, Oregon, Arkansas, South Carolina, and Texas. If you think you would be interested in observing, getting training on the online classroom, being an assisant, or even setting up and running your own classes, let me know. My name is Tammy Moore. You can e-mail me at [email protected]. Our organization is The Virtual Homeschool Group and is located at http://www.virtualhomeschoolgroup.com/
