Can I become a teacher?

I want to know if you can become a teacher with bad grades. I had a really bad year last year. Both of my grandparents died in a bus accident and my parents got divorced and my dad got remmaried.

All of this stress caused me to miss a lot of school and I got bad grades. I had mostly C’s an A in English(my favorite class and what I want to teach) and an F. (I made the class up in summer school.)

I wondered would this hold me back from becoming a teacher. That’s what I want to do. So far in school this year(I’m a juniour in high school) I have been making straight A’s. Will that bad year ruin my dreams?

They will never look at your HS grades once you are in college. I know the grades seem really important now, (and they are) but it sounds like you are going to recover beautifully! I am so sorry about your bad year, but teaching is very possible still!

No, it will not ruin your dreams!

I’m sorry for your loss; what a rough year you had! It sounds like you are back on track now, and that’s the most important thing. If anyone were to ever question your bad year, you just need to explain what all you went through.

What you need to do from hear on out is focus on your school work and keep your grades up. Before you know it, you will be in college and making your dream come true!

no way… don’t worry about it. you’ll be fine. just really keep your head in it for your senior year. apply to colleges that have a strong teaching program. give it all you’ve got, and do a good interview or write a good essay for your application. you’ll do just fine!! your junior year in hs is obviously a factor as far as your final gpa…but it’s not EVERYTHING. if you want to be a teacher….go for it! you can even start out by getting an associates degree at a small local college. you have lots and lots of time to make up for one bad year. good luck and follow your dream!!!

Absolutely not…you have been through so much….any college would understand…and under the circumstances you had, you actually did okay.

Your high school grades won’t mean much once you get into college….so for now, just concentrate on keeping your grades up….and I’m so sorry for what you went through…I wish you good luck in your teaching career.
