That is one thing that I can not and will not tolerate. It’s gets to my very last nerve. Be firm and enforce consequences. It helps when you have a supportive administration.

One strike you’re out. Any kid who cusses, argues or assaults a teacher or any member of the faculty should be expelled permanently and told to go and find an education elsewhere if they can. No second chances, no appeals process and no chance of ever getting back in. There is no place for that kind of thing in public funded education. With this system in place you’d be surprised how fast some of these problem students will straighten up or be gone to make life easier for the faculty and the other students that are there to learn.

I do not allow disrespect. I give respect and expect it in return. I am very consistent and will give consequences to whomever breaks the rules. A student cannot argue with you unless you give them the opportunity. No response to rudeness usually stops it immediately.

If you read some of the responses to this question, you will see what teachers put up with everyday.

At the beginning I used to get mad. But I realized that was what students wanted. So, if in case of getting mad or loosing your temper, you just ignore it or make fun of the comment, the students will start understanding that you are not so easy to fool around. In case it is mayor action just send him out and continue the class without making any comment of the situation.

I just wonder how long is going to take before they really mess up and end up in court and even in jail.

if you need to insult someone, because you are not smart enough to be polite, then you have a big, big problem… and someday you will not have a teacher, you will have a cop or a judge to punish you.

You need to be more specific. Some faculty should be fired.

I get angry. I feel like my classroom is MY classroom, and I don’t want some punk kid coming in and messing up my classroom vibe.

It depends. It’s circumstantial.
