I have as a student (way back in the 80’s) and a parent. Personally, I am very pro-union in my beliefs and am all for employees taking a stand to protect their future and work environments. Both side must be willing to give and take, but at times this just doesn’t happen. It’s an inconvenience, yes, but teachers and support staff are not working for the fun of it; they deserve fair pay, decent benefits, and safe working conditions just like everyone else!

Hmm. There must have been one in your past, because you missed the day when they taught you the different uses of

‘have’ and ‘has’. Your question should have read “Have any of you experienced a teacher strike?”

And the answer is yes, from both sides. As a student it was fun – we spent a few days catching up on homework, doing research and just hanging out together. Then it got boring.

As a teacher it was frustrating – we had piles of papers to mark and weren’t able to do so.

One proper strike as a student.

As both a student and a teacher, countless stop-work meetings, with the ultimatum of strike if things did not improve.

Yes. As a student it was lots of fun. We got to stay home and do nothing! Oh yeah! But as a teacher it is hard. You can’t work, you have to bargain and you are stressed!! Not a good experience.

As a student – it was awesome! No school until Sept 15th or something.

1978… we went on strike because we were getting paid poorly. Did it help? Nope…
