I would say don’t base this on pay. Yes, some states pay better, but the cost of living is often higher too. Live wherever you want. Something else to consider is the state standards and testing. Which states have a strong Board of Education? Which states consistently adequately fund their schools?

The best place to teach would be a place you love. New England has some very good private schools but ALL schools need good teachers with a passion to educate. Right on for choosing a noble career.

If you get certified in a state like New Jersey, New York, or Connecticut, you can work in almost any other state, as those states have the most rigorous standards. (I believe they tend to pay more too.)
