Can I get a teaching job (art) in a public school with a BFA in Art History and a Master’s degree in education

I teach ceramics from my home studio, and had lots of extra studio classes in college.

It depends on the state and local requirements and if you have passed the necessary teacher examinations. If you have not taken the exams yet, many school systems will hire you on a one or two year contract with the understanding that you pass the exams within a certain time frame.

Sure. There is no cookie cutter education for every job. People bring all sorts of degrees to different professions. It’s all in how you can convince them that you can teach the kids something with art.

It depends on the state requirements. Usually though. My sister has her degree in Theater and her master’s in education, but her program had student teaching built into the master’s degree.

ALL states have alternate certification programs…..

You should contact your state’s board of education and ask about their alternate certification….in Louisiana [and a few other states] you can teach while you are going through the certification process…..
