Yes, the experience of studying abroad and learing a foreign language would be invaluable. It’s also helpful to get an experience of a different culture. Most industries will continue to be more international, and the overseas living experience may turn out to have been an important piece of your profile.

I think young people today have no true sense of awareness of being in a foreign land, and alot of Americans do not realize how Imperialistic we can be. I am proud to be an American, and I do believe that in many ways we ARE superior, but there have been countries and civilizations thousands of years older than us and it is hypocracy to totally disengage ourselves because of a few issues with nations who have been in power for thousands of years…its an eye opener, just go to Europe, and places like Germany…ASIA, CHINA, RUSSIA and you can see how much time difference is a factor. Its only been 50 or so years in America where our freedoms were equal for all…so get out there and see the world, it will help with a sense of unity that certianly needs to be incorporated into all of the nations. Make sure that you study the customs and dangers and even the topography of where you are going, people who travel in the US forget to realize that we also have the white sands and places of extreme heat like LasVegas, and we have very high altitude which you have to cook and do many things differently including deal with possibly altitude sickness…when you go to Europe the first thing people do is fry thier appliances because the electrical current is higher there, the second thing that is different are the phone numbers and the list goes on and on, its important to be grateful for the environment that we study in and see the differences like in other countries they value education so much that they get fully dressed and sleep right at the desk so they can be there first thing when class starts, and thats in “The week in pictures.” an elementary student! on MSN.com. So travel hun, you wont regret it.:) Take Care.-Rachel.

I absolutely think studying abroad will contribute to your college education. Life is all about learning new things, and being in a foreign land and learning different customs will help make you a more tolerable and respectful person. And so many different countries have such great school systems that it would be a shame to not learn about them.

Here’s a good site that gives you good information for studying abroad:
