studying abroad. always wanted to do it. any advice?

I’m a junior in high school and I have ALWAYS been interested in studying abroad. I just think it would be one of the greatest experiences of my life; learning about new cultures, a new language, meeting awesome people. Can anyone give me feed back on their experience? Is it all I imagine it to be?

I’ve studied abroad before.. just last summer I stayed for about a month in China. I absorbed the culture, met new friends from not only around my area (the other people in my travel group) but people from the all around the U.S. and the world, including France and Brazil. It was amazing.. I had the best time there. I learned a lot about the language, because we had classes every week, and because everybody there speaks it… so you sort of pick up more of the “conversational language.”

We also got to go on a lot of tours, especially special ones because we were in a study-abroad program.

The experience as a whole was amazing.. it made me want to travel more! I learned a lot of life skills : how to live on my own without my parents, how to do laundry, how to exchange currency, how to travel around a city. I still even keep in touch with the people that I met, especially the ones who live thousands of miles away.

So if you ever get the chance to study abroad, go for it! Raise money if you have to, so you can pay for it. It’ll change your life, I promise. Plus, it looks good on college applications because it shows personal growth and a well-rounded personality. (( : I hope you do get the opportunity to study abroad, because YES, it is even more than what you imagine it to be.
