Should I take the ACT or the SAT?

Does it matter what i want to go into because if not i need to know which would be easier because im an all around straight A student but i know i need to take the ACT because i need to score above a 27 to fulfill the req of an honors diploma at my school. I just want to know which is easier and if one is easier to predict than the other. (Majoring in a Medical Field and Minoring in Music/Trumpet)

Most Universities place more emphasis on the ACT. But a lot of the more prestigious ones want both. Can get into most with one or the other (like I said, usually prefer the ACT). Also, going into the Medical Field I would assume you should be pretty smart, so taking both to showcase your talents to help get you into a better school should be a priority of yours. The way you ask the question, it sounds like you just want to take one or the other and hope you can squeak by into getting in, which makes no sense because to advance in college studying what you want to you need well above average grades anyways.

Miss Alexis – I completed four years of college and never took the SAT. Graduated in ’01 so no too long ago either.

For most universities, either the ACT or the SAT will do. So take both (or take practice tests for both, score them, and take the test on which you would get the comparitively higher score. There is a score conversion chart on wikipedia if you look up ACT). Most students find the ACT easier, but since some find the SAT easier, you will need to figure that out for yourself.

Like the others said: take both! Some people are just naturally better at one or the other, and it can’t hurt to take both! The SAT is more of an “aptitude” test, while the ACT is considered and “achievement” test, in theory.

And, no, it doesn’t matter what you’re going into. Almost every college and university will accept either ACT or SAT scores– the SAT is the older, more traditional test, so some of the Ivy league-type schools still prefer it, but they will look at ACT score.

Good luck!

I recommend the SAT as more schools prefer it over the ACT, but if you are considering a career in the medical field, I presume you are good at science. Thus, it might not be that bad of an idea to take a shot at the ACT either…
