Why does it take 1.5 months to grade the CFA exam which answered on a scantron?

I understand that a lot of people took it, but with all multiple choice scantron machines, isn’t it a simple matter of putting the answer sheets into a machine? When I was in college I’d take a test on a scantron answer sheet and the results would be posted online later that day.

Apparently the CFA does some kind of curving or statistical analysis of questions, but would that really take a month?

I’d like to know if I passed so I can go on to do other things and not have to worry about retaking it later this year.

Is this unusual for a multiple choice test?

You look at it from the standpoint of why so long. The institute looks at it from the standpoint of why so short. The results will be out in about 10-15 days or so. The next exam is in Dec. That gives 4 full months to prepare if you failed. If you pass, there’s nothing you can do with it before next June anyway. I actually agree with you that they can and should have level 1 results out by now, but they have have no reason to do it faster. Besides, it could be worse. I took level 2 which is also on a scantron sheet, has half as many questions as level 1, and the results don’t come out until a month after yours!

It’s like the SAT in the sense that there are probably over millions of people taking this national exam. Things that are as important as this exam take time to produce curves, interpret results, etc.

Shipping and mailing probably take about 1/2 the time, in all honesty.

a million. Is there any purpose concerning me inhabiting this planet or am I purely helping overpopulate it and making each and every person else worse off? 2. Why am I so fearful of the inevitable and the unknown? 3. Why is the human race so egocentric?
