SAT vs. ACT testing?
Favorite Answer
In my opinion, unless you get a perfect score or close to it in the first shot, every student should take both tests because every student is different and might do better on one test than the other. I got a perfect ACT composite on my first try as a sophomore, but I never got quite up there on my SAT, even with repeated testing.
The SAT is trying to trick you into picking the easiest answer. It does not test your intelligence, just how well you can take a test.
The ACT is a test of your knowledge. Therefore, it is better for some people. The ACT is better for many people who aren’t good test takers. The ACT also has science sections, whereas the SAT does not. So, if you are good at science and want a test based on your knowledge, take the ACT. If you are a good test taker, take the SAT.
By the way, ALL colleges (I’m not sure about community colleges) are REQUIRED by law to take the SAT and ACT and judge them equally.
There is some snobbery to the SAT, as it is out of Princeton NJ and the ACT is out of Iowa City Iowa. Note that Iowa students always have the highest average scores of all states on the SAT.
It is important to note that they are different tests in many ways. The ACT is much more like a collection of SAT II exams and generates five scores.
