The PSAT is neither hard nor easy. It is practice to get you ready for the real SAT! The most important thing to know on this test is to answer all the questions that you know the answer and SKIP all the questions if you do not know the answer. The SAT and PSAT are aptitude tests. They want to know if you know what you know and don’t know! Guessing and getting an answer wrong actually lowers your score.

There are 3 types of questions rated hard, medium and easy. When you get your results back for the PSAT you will see on the score report how each question was rated. You will also get the test booklet returned to you so you can see how you answered each question, what you put for an answer and what the correct answer is. The best thing about taking the PSAT is that they will give you three goals or skills that you should study or improve on to make a higher score for next time in each of the three areas of math, reading, and writing- which is the best preparation for the SAT. Also when you get the score report back, you will see the MY ROAD and coolegeboard websites where you will be able to get free tutorials on preparing for the SAT – which you can use for a year just because you took the PSAT! You can get the free SAT question of the day, e-mail in your answer, and they will send you immediate feedback on the correct answer or if you got it wrong, how to get to the correct answer. It is excellent for improving your scores and knowledge.

So this is a lot of info! Just relax and do your best and do not guess answers!!

The only way that I can really describe the PSAT is tricky. There a lot of answers that look right, but then they’re completely wrong. The best thing that you can do to prepare yourself for the test is to get a study guide book, like Princeton Review’s Cracking the PSAT. I am doing this book right now, and it offers great tips and tricks on how to answer questions correctly, even if you don’t know the answers. I would strongly recommend that you review Algebra, Geometry and classes before those before continuing with the PSAT. Also, try to increase your vocab, by reading something challenging, like maybe a classic or the newspaper. Either way, get the princeton review book, it will teach you more about this test than I can right now. Good luck!
