do colleges care about gpas?

do colleges even care about how high your gpa is? since you’re only accepted by your sat score what is the point of having grades and gpas. i dont think its fair if you have a really high gpa and great grades, and it doesnt matter. what happens if you have like a 4.0 and take ap classes, and do not so well on the sats? why do colleges judge you on your sat scores and not about your gpas?

Honey, I don’t know who told you that, but most colleges care a LOT about your GPA. They also look to see how difficult the classes were that you took, and whether you took harder classes each successive years. Most colleges realize that not everyone performs well on standardized tests like the SAT and ACT, so please don’t panic. Your hard work over the last few years will be worth it and will count very much, as will the recommendations from your teachers and counselors.

Good luck, and have fun in college!

Now days, with many more people applying for jobs at a company than there are positions available, employers can be very choosy; therefore, they are looking for the candidate that not only has the education, but the experience as well. However, that does not mean that a candidate should think that they can get by with just a 2.0. You should try to graduate with at least a 3.0 Cumulative GPA, but if that is not possible, make sure your Major GPA is at least a 3.0, because this will show that you possess more than just the average amount of knowledge in your chosen field. Ideally, employers like to see someone with at least a Bachelor Degree, 3.0 in major, and at least one semester of an internship experience or one year of job experience.

One thing that I think makes SATs attractive to colleges is that they are standardized. Colleges don’t know what the standards of individual high schools are. At one school, a student might get an A, but they would get a C somewhere else with higher standards. But with SATs they take pains to make sure they’re administered the same way so the same score means the same thing.

That said, I don’t believe they ignore your GPA.

Well GPA and SATs both matters. If you do good on the SAT and have a low GPA, colleges would try to balance it out. Most college would say that they required and number for GPA.

Colleges usually care more about the gpa’s than the SAT scores (or so Ive heard). Many people, especially minorities like me, don’t do very well on the SATs for many reasons, and are not very good test takers. Its not what you know on the SATS, but HOW you USE the knowldge. So, they do care more about gpa, buts its still a good idea to do good on the PSAT. If it helps, I never get higher than a 1090 on my SATs, yet get like a 93 average. I feel so dumb!

Most accredited universities look at both SAT scores and GPA. If someone scored high on their SAT but is a D student, why should they admit them to their school?

They take more than SAT scores and GPA’s into consideration though. They also look at what clubs you’ve belonged to, if you played sports, if you were in student government, volunteer programs, etc., etc.

they look at ur GPA also, because if u did really well on ur SAT but u had a GPA of something like 2 or below, it might raise questions on how you got a really high score n the SAT

they like GPAs because they like to see how you do over time, you could stufy like crazy for the SAT and do well, but you have to constantly work at your GPA, so they want to see if you have work ethic

The vast majority of colleges consider both.

Your GPA says more about your long term potential to function adequately in an educational setting.

They consider BOTH the test scores and GPAs. Not strictly one or the other.

colleges look at both ur G.P.A and ur SAT scores

u can take the SAT as many times as u want so it doesn’t matter if u do that bad on it the first time
