Biology SAT II?

I am studying for the Biology SAT II subject test. I took honors biology as a freshman and I am planning to take the subject test in October as a sophomore. I have the Barron’s book and will have about 2 months of prepping time. Is it okay to take the test by studying the book alone (haven taken biology last year and I probably forgot stuff)? What other prep books are recommended? Is two months enough prep time to get a high score?

If you’ve already taken the class, two months is more than enough. My only concern for you is that the material may no longer be fresh when you take the exam in October, but if you use a test prep book, you’ll probably be fine. It’ll keep the important stuff fresh enough. Check out http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw/002-9182022-6452069?initialSearch=1&url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=sat+ii+biology for user reviews on different Bio books for the SAT. One of my favorite test prep companies is Princeton Review, but there’s a ton of other books out there that may be more suited towards your needs.

In my experience with SAT subject tests, a few weeks’ worth of review suffices. Starting too far ahead of time doesn’t help because by the time October comes around, you’ll have forgotten stuff you studied in August. I’ve never studied for an SAT subject test more than two weeks in advance.

It’s fine to skip the other Biology book. In fact, I just took the CLEP (another college credit test) for Biology, and studied almost exclusively from the Princeton Review’s “Cracking the AP Biology Exam” book. I just borrowed the book from the library, went through it a couple times (took notes and the included practice tests!), and passed the CLEP easily — I hadn’t taken Biology in about 3 years too!

I don’t know enough about Barron to say what caliber study guide it is, but I’ve used Princeton Review books very succesfully for several exams…so they’re my first choice.

The advantage of their study guides is that they focus on what you’ll be tested on rather than anything and everything as most textbooks tend to.

Oh…here…found it…maybe try “Cracking the SAT II: Biology E/M”

…that should be even better for you than the one I used.

Happy testing and hope it goes well!

freshman biology probably didnt cover everything. if you study i guess you could do well. my friend said that when she took the test twice, she saw all barrons stuff in one and all princeton stuff in one, but idk. two months is enough time, 2 days is enough time. depends on how you study.
