Am I not smart enought?

I’m a junior this year, and I’m getting good grades so far. What I’m worrying about is my math. I’m taking AP U.S. History and AP english for my junior year, they’re my strong subjects. But I’m taking Algebra 2 A. (They divide Algebra 2 into 2 years, and I really feel stupid.) So I won’t even be able to take pre calculus, or even trig. Will colleges not consider me if I have a weaker understanding of math?

Well, having a good GPA is pretty important. They look less at the classes you have taken and more at GPA and standardized test scores.(ACT or SAT) You might need some trig or pre calc for the math sections of the standardized tests, but you can do that without the class. There are many majors in college that don’t require extensive math, but algebra is required for all of them, so learn it well now. I’m sure you will do fine. Good luck!

No school that offers AP makes everyone take Algebra 2 in 2 years. Can you change your schedule to take the 1 year course? Then you could take trig or precalc. If you change, you’ll have to work hard. You could start now by reviewing algebra I. There’s lots of help in understanding and working problems on the internet so you could be stronger when you begin.

Colleges will take you, but maybe not the ones you’d like. Were your AP exam scores good?

What major did you have in mind?

You may be required to take a remedial math course before you can take certain other courses or even before admission.

My son was required to take a remedial math course in order to be admitted to the state university. He only had algebra 1 and 2 and geometry, so he was in the same boat as you.

Once he took the remedial math course, he was in!
