it means the child will go to a hearing school for part of the time and then the deaf school for the other part of the time.. im hard of hearing and mainstreaming was an option for me but i didnt want to and i really should ave because it influences a lot of future issues in the future as we get older. giving the hearing world a better understanding of us and vice versa.. if u have anymore questions or anything about legal rights and intrepeters and speech and language offices, let me know.. [email protected] – just capatlize your subject line. thanks. good luck to you

mainstreaming is when a deaf or hearing impaired student is in a public school in a regular class room vs a special education class room. An IEP is set up so the teacher of the student and the student have goals that needs to be met in the mainstream setting.

Mainstreaming is placing students with special needs and disabilities in a regular classroom so as to give them the “least restrictive environment” for learning. This often requires an aide or tutor to be present in the classroom with the student at least for some of the time. Mainstreaming is, in part, an effect of No Child Left Behind and IDEA.

It means that the child will be put in regular classes, not a special education room. Usually, a child who is mainstreamed with an IEP (special education plan) has an aide that sits in class with them, but not always. Basically, mainstreaming means that students with learning difficulties are put in the same classes as students who do not – but they get special accomodations, like an aide, to assist them with those courses.

The word mainstreaming is a way for students with special needs attend regular ed classes and, hopefully that particular student succeeds in all subject areas. Districts are to do away with the word special ed and place students in regular ed classes in the hopes of a true success. There a site you would find of interest to an understanding of special ed etc.

good luck
