Correct way to write the following quotation?
1.) “Many are called,” Christ once said, “but few are chosen.”
2.) “Many are called, Christ once said, but few are chosen.”
I believe is #2, but need to verify.

#1 is correct if the quoted person is Christ and the narrator is describing who is quoted. When using quotations, only the quoted texts is placed within the quotation marks. For example:
Jane was struggling one day and remembered, “Many are called,” Christ once said, “but few are chosen.”
#2 would be correct only if the person speaking used the words “Christ one said.” For example:
Jane, in her bible study class made her point by
reminding her friends, “Many are called, Christ once said, but few are chosen.”
