Does anyone know about this George Bernard Shaw quote?

“There are two tragedies in life one is to lose your hearts desire the other is to gain it.”

— George Bernard Shaw

Our desires and quests are what drive all of us to move forward in life. We might work for a newer car, a bigger house, the spouse we most desire. If for some reason, you attained all your desires (unlikely), life would then be much less interesting. GBS was a literary giant who observed England’s wealthy society with a jaundiced eye and it is likely who he had in mind.

Shaw quotes are often witty in a paradoxical sort of way (e.g. they tend to contain contradictions in order to make a point). This particular quote is no exception. On the one hand, losing something that you’ve always dreamt of having might be considered tragic, yet so can getting the very thing you’ve always wanted. In other words, be careful what you wish for. A good example of this is winning the lottery. I hope this helps. Take care.

To not find what moves you the most. After you have found it, that desire is fulfilled. For instance, “The hunt is more important than the kill.”

once you have your hearts desire it is inevitable that you will loose it. like you find your one true love and then they die, when they die you have lost it , if you had never found it to begin with ..you would not have had it loose.
