Why is it a privilege & not a right for kids to use the restroom in grade school?

Nature calls, & when a kid wets himself, everyone in school makes fun of him for it. That’s a bunch of bull for the teachers to ONLY let the kid use the bathroom once a month. Isn’t that unhealthy to make a kid hold his urine/feces?

What!!! Since when does “answering the call of nature” become a privilege and not a right? Sheesh! You better x-ray that teacher, may actually be an alien or an android!

Abusing the privilege is a problem of course; actually, most rules are made because of basic principles that are abused and so the non-abusers that come later get stuck with the ‘short end of the stick’ and a ridiculous rule like this.

Fight it! Truly, your children’s health is at stake! Holding bodily wastes in is never good.

Let me ask you a question. When you were in school, how many times did you really have to go to the bathroom or get a drink of water? Now think about how many times you abused that PRIVILEDGE only to leave the class for a “break”. I used to get into the act and do the short hop like I couldn’t hold it and as soon as I walked out I stopped jumping. Sound familiar? Now imagine if you are the teacher, you have to guess if the child is really needing a break or really has to go.

So, by faking, the child is taking away time from their education as well as a real chance to use the restroom when they really need to! If the teacher catches them faking then trust is lost! Therefore, the teacher may not believe them again once they see them “in the act” and then walking normally.

How do I know? I am a teacher and I too did the same thing to my teachers. I’m not stupid though, I allow 1 bathroom break before and after lunch. The water fountain is in my classroom. I hope this brings light to your question.

**** Just added **** are you sure he doesnt have a bed wetting problem? Maybe he holds it in too long before he tells the teacher (if he really needs to go)

Kids in grade school may not have a fully developed bladder yet. So they might not be able to hold it. Holding it for an extended period of time can hurt them. And refusing to let them use the restroom for a very long time can be called child abuse. It’s also very unsanitary if they go in the classroom.

I’d report it to the principal if a teacher didn’t let my kid go to the restroom. If that didn’t change things, then I’d talk to someone above them. The teacher should be reprimanded for it.

I have not heard of anyone only letting kids use the restroom once a month. Although, I do not agree that children should have to get permission to use the restroom. I think the best solution would be to have a bathoom in each classroom, or shared BR for every two classes, you know like they ‘join’ the 2 rooms together. But, alas, that is tax dollars that everyone will not want to pay for our kids.

My kids go to the restroom when ever they want, we homeschool.

I’m not sure that the details are 100% accurate here. I could see limiting a kid’s trips to one an hour or so, but once a month seems unusual.

I would speak to the teacher in question to see if this is really the case.

i had a 4th grade teacher who desided that the BOYs couldn’t use teh bathroom! Girls had restrictions(finish work, go alone) because apparently the 5girsl were more trustworthy(boys were talkitive)

But hwat’s funny, then, was, the girls talked ALOT in the bathroom, never got introube.

But now i see that it was real bad of her to keep us in when we had to ‘go’. I don’t see how it was a privilge to go take a pee. Mrs. Freed(4th teach) had other problems too, too strick and actulay got MAD when I wanted to advance farther in my book in INDIPENDANT study!

Well, they’re not supposed to, it’s just that they do cause they can because that’s before the kids auctually realize they have rights!

Once a MONTH? You’re exaggerating, right? I’ve never heard of a rule like that.
