freshmen year doesn’t count as much for college

for my school, the only APs you can take is AP music theory

if you can handle APs, then go ahead: )

good luck!

Please don’t, that would be a huge mistake. If you are a genius, in which case you would have already been recommended for AP classes, then go ahead and take them. If you take honors classes your freshman year, that’s great. Make your course schedule a little more difficult each year, so you can keep a good GPA, and colleges like to see a gradual increase of course difficulty and of grades. If you take a bunch of AP classes your freshman year, you will probably have bad grades and that will look horrible on a college application

AP classes are college level classes, taken in a high school setting. If you were ready for college courses at the ripe old age of 14 or 15, it is very likely that you would have skipped grades in previous years.

Take my advise and don’t do it. I’m sure your honors classes will be challenging enough, especially since it’s your first year in high school. Take it easy.

No.

And you know why? Because 9th grade doesn’t REALLY count. 10th and up is where colleges focus.

I’m a junior and I’m taking 6. I took 1 last year and none in 9th grade. And I really regret signing up for as many as I did this year. I can’t imagine what it would have been like when I was 14. 9th grade is hard enough. Besides, most schools don’t offer APs for 9th graders. AP World History is typically offered only to 10th grade and up and AP English isn’t offered until 11th grade. AP math classes often require prerequisites including pre-calc and most AP science classes require you having taken the regular or honors class first.

Let me remind you that APs are NOT honors classes. They are MUCH MUCH MUCH harder. On the first day of school, I was up until 2 AM and have been everyday this week. I’m considering dropping one because of the workload. You have 4 years to amass APs to put on your transcript. Enjoy a year of AP free schooling– but, join a club or a sport and continue it throughout school.

As I understand it, AP classes are generally set up for 11th and 12th grade- except for the very, very advanced. If you look at the course offerings, you will probably see AP English 3, or AP Government. These are classes generally associated with upper classmen. Advanced classes for 9th and 10th graders are generally honors or pre-AP. The reason behind this is that you can achieve college credit for AP classes if you score high enough on the AP exam at the end of the class. Colleges don’t generally want to give college credit to 9th and 10th grade students. Be patient. Talk with your school counselor. And keep challenging yourself!

I was in the same situation in the 10th grade. When the verbal abuse turned in to death threats, I told my mom. She then angrily called the school and demanded to know why they weren’t protecting me. The only difference is that there was only 1 person bothering me (and it was a guy on top of that) and you have several people harassing you. Do not do anything that will jeopardize your grades or get you kicked out of school! Do not allow them to ruin your life. Tell your parents, tell the school principal, tell whoever will listen. Sometimes ignoring those kind of people don’t work. Maybe your principal can set up a meeting with your parents and their parents? I hope this helped in some way. Good luck to you!
