We are moving into a new school district. Will a school accept new students in the middle of the school year?

My daughter is registered and going to a kindergarten this August in my current location. I plan to move around Oct to Nov this year into a new school district, where the school space is very limited.

Will the new school deny my daughter to their school until next year? How does this work? I checked their web site which mentioned the Kindergarten registration was held in February this year for the fall entrance. Does that mean that even we move there this Oct, she can only attend the new school for her 1st grade?

If it is a public school, they have to take her. However, if it is a special program within that public school, she may not get in. For example, we have a few all day kg classes, but they fill up quickly. So, if someone moved in in the middle of the school year, they might not get in and would have to go to a regular kg class.

Telephone the new school district, talk to a real person, and get good answers. Likely your daughter will be able to start school as soon as you move into the new district.

Good luck.

No, if you become a resident of a town or district, your children are permitted to attend school, no matter when you move there.
