to be able to measure out the right dose for the patient…not just what the doc writes an Rx for. Also, to know how to calculate a smaller/larger dose for a child or “different” patient.

Also, you should know what a proper dose (usually milligrams per kilogram of patient’s body weight is), so that you can phone the doc if the Rx is off.

Doctors aren’t God, they get to make mistakes too. It’s the pharmacist’s job to catch them.

Pharmacists don’t just count out pills. They also compound medicines.

If you get a script for 0.325 mg/dl lead pyrophosphate in a 3.2 normal solution of amyl alcohol, you’re going to have to figure out how much of each to add to create a 500 cc bottle of the stuff.

being a pharmacist, you have to know how much of a type of drug or medicine a person needs. How many pills or tablets, how much it will cost, and how much medicine needs to be in each tablet. You also need to keep up with the persons past medical record, so you can make sure they aren’t overdosing.
