Is it true that if I get 1 D at all in high school then I can’t get into a 4 year college?

If this is so I did not ever know about this until today.

No way! I did horrible my first two years of high school (I had a 1.7 GPA). I realized I REALLY couldn’t get into any college and worked my butt of the next two years. I graduated with a 2.76. I had plenty of D’s those first two years. I wasn’t turned down to any school I applied for. Mind you I didn’t apply to Harvard or anything, but a regular ol’ college or university didn’t seem to care what I had done 3 or 4 years ago.

This my dear, is completely false.

I am in the 11th grade at one of the top (if not the best) public schools in Alabama and the 130th best school in the nation. It is known for having a rigorous curriculum and prides itself on being extremely competitive.

I have been extremely lazy in my academic career, as well as some of my fellow peers. But, the guidance counselor assurred me even though I made a D in Chemistry in the 10th grade i would still be accepted into a state school, such as University of Alabama or Auburn University (which are both 4 year schools). It all depends on your cumulative GPA. One D will not kill your GPA, trust me I’ve looked into this.

EX: A friend of mine made 2 D’s and STILL made it into Alabama with a 2.7 GPA and a 23 on her ACT.

Hope that helps you and or your worries!

False

I made 48 on my semester exam in stats and i got into university of Texas at Austin.

I also missed most of that semester due to illness. My grades were horrible that year but colleges do understand the fact that problems do occur.

Colleges look at many things including GPA, Extra curricular activities, work experience, SAT/ACT scores, essays and etc.

Don’t worry. U will get in if u do ur best during ur high school years.

Not true. Your overall GPA is much more important. They would rather look at a single number than peruse four years of transcripts for every applicant to see how they got the GPA (ie any D’s, C’s etc.)

No. You just have to have an overall GPA of like 3.0 But you most likely won’t get a scholarship.
