Website to help me level books with DRA LEVELS?

I’m trying to help my daughter’s teacher level some books she already have with their DRA level. I need a website where I can type in the title and it will tell me the DRA level. Anyone know of one? It MUST BE DRA- that’s what the school district uses and it’s non-negotiable. Thanks!

I’m not sure there is such a database. From what I understand, the DRA is a proprietary reading scale and is only “officially” assigned to those books written and published by the company that developed DRA (Pearson).

However, this next link is to a document on comparison of reading levels from Harcourt (the publisher). It has many charts comparing levels of many different systems, including DRA, and shows the names of the books in each series and how they compare. This link is to an Internet Archive version of the file, because the link goes to a different document now: http://web.archive.org/web/20040724033200/http://www.harcourtachieve.com/Pages/articles/2004ComboLevelGuide.pdf

Also, I found a site here listing DRA levels for some non-Pearson books, but it’s not super extensive (it’s an Excel spreadsheet): http://services.giddings.txed.net/ges/leveled%20book%20inventory.xls – if you don’t have Excel configured to work with your computer you can view the web version of the spreadsheet here: http://209.85.165.104/search?q=cache:ZCbpm11YzjYJ:services.giddings.txed.net/ges/leveled%2520book%2520inventory.xls+%22dra+level%22+%22very+hungry+caterpillar%22&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=5&gl=us . I expect the DRA levels were assigned by a teacher or reading specialist, however, and are not “official.” Another list similar to this that may be helpful: http://www.sandi.net/dingeman/teachers/guided_reading/fiction.htm

One last thing that may work is you can easily find out the Lexile of most books at http://www.lexile.com/DesktopDefault.aspx?view=ed&tabindex=5&tabid=67 and then use a chart that correlates the Lexile to DRA. I found a chart like that here: http://pals.virginia.edu/Instructional-Resources/PALS-instructionalresources-book-levels.asp That should work for most books other than the most basic beginning readers. At least it will get you in the ballpark.

Good luck!
