locked out of my community collge?

I cant ever get the appropriate general ed classes. Theres too many people ahead and the waiting list is 2 years long. I need these credits to get into a real college. lam missing an algebra 2 credit from high school. At this rate I wont be able to get throught his college for at least ten years or so. I want a 4 year degree in 4 years . I mean WTF? , I mean no 4 year college will let me in, I got a 3.5 gpa NHS.NTHS,NSHSS and an Eagle scout. THey keep telling me to get a 2 year degree and transfer, now I cant even do that. Seriously HOw do I force a school to take me? I mean give them no choice Iam willing to throw my life away to get in I worked so hard all my life. Oh btw way Iam a substitute teacher and guess what long term assignment I taught for … algebra, this is bullshit. I mean I really want to get a degree. This is my third year of trying. Who do I go to to get me in ? Can i fix this waiting list problem? Who’s bones do i break?

You are experiencing what many students experience at all kinds of institutions, community college or university, but especially at community college. There are not enough sections of a class, you have to wait to get into classes, classes are not offered when you want/need to take them. Hang in there, it’ll work its self out.

But I don’t know why you can’t get accepted into a 4 year institution. You don’t need an associates degree to get a bachelors degree. Who is telling you this? Start applying to 4 year schools, pretty much now.

I don’t know of any community college that has a two year waiting list for a class. Students register for classes at the end of each semester prior to the start of the next semester. If you can’t get into a class, that means you are not registering on time. Are you saying that you can’t even get into the community college or you just can’t take the class?

You need to talk to a counselor to get you in and find out what is stopping you from getting in. I have never heard of anyone being locked out of a community college because their program is so huge that no students can get in.

The only reason I can think of is that you have some locks on your record that doesn’t allow you to take any classes because you haven’t paid for previous classes or something of that nature.

I believe that there is something else to the issue than just not letting you in. Do you have a high school degree at least? Are you meeting registration and application deadlines?

It is definitely worth going to college. I’m sure that you have not exhausted all of your options. Have you looked at online courses through the community college (not online “universities” such as University of Phoenix)? Many community colleges offer some of their lower level or general education courses online.

You cannot force a school to take you, or “kick” other people off of a waiting list. Have you tried going and talking to the admissions people in person, and talking to them in a calm, professional manner while also listening to them? What are their suggestions? If it is only a matter of getting into one course, go talk to the course instructor and see what they have to say. Sometimes the instructors can allow additional students in to the courses.

Good luck!

Still whining eh Matthew B?

Lots of 4-year schools will admit you, you just haven’t tried them all yet. They take G.E.D. students, remember?

Face the fact that you aren’t going to get a B.A or B.S. in four years. It may take you 10. If you really want the sheepskin, do what it takes following the rules. You’ve waited three years to just start now, so unless you plan to take 140 hours of credit work in the next 12 months, forget the 4-year plan. It is possible to earn a B.A. in three years, if you attend all sessions of school. Whining on the internet isn’t going to get you there, sticking with it will.

Please stop saying you are an Eagle Scout; it is embarrassing to those of us who are.
