No. But we need to be holding people back starting in elementary school. You’re only hurting them by advancing them when they clearly shouldn’t.

Our public school system needs some serious reform.

Borderline. That a loaded word with different emotionally-based defintions. Who’s borderline – the person with challeneged English grades but phenominal technical or science skills? The science geek with no social skills who just may save the world? A Downs syndrom person who could become an actor?

We’re not all cookie-cutter people. I think our system needs to adapt to an approach that accommodates for the infinite variation in people. (ok I can hear the screaming now, ‘you’re advocating letting illeterate people into the system’ – well ya know what? the system is full of them today and that’s part of what makes up this big robust soup called life).

My brother was a borderline student who got through high school by playing football. His teachers gave him passing grades to keep him on a winning team.

When football season ended his senior year, his “pass” privileges were revoked. He suddenly had to struggle to get through his 2nd semester with a 5th grade reading level.

He just barely got that diploma.

He is almost 50 now and has had a very hard life, trying to catch up with every one else.

He is at least one person who should not have been graduated. But he really should have been helped all along.

No because it sets them up to fail in the future because if they r on the border of failing at work and they think its fine cuz thats how they did it in high school then theyll probably get fired for bing slackers

a lot of kids are stupid so we should probably let this growing population of stupids at least graduate from high school so that they can live a semi crappy life. as long as colleges don’t let their standards drop too much i think we’re good.
