In the state of kentucky?

in the state of Ky do I have a choice on whether or not my child is held back from 1st grade. She is a boarder line reader but excells in math. Her teacher wants to hold her back due to her reading and I do not want that at all. Can I insist or am I bound by the teachers decision?

g i,

I read your response to “What event from your childhood?”, it brought tears to my eyes, you are a beautiful person. Regarding this question……. it reflects very strongly to the previous question I mentioned….. I was held back in second grade and it was the worst single event of my childhood…… I had numerous learning difficulties and have since outgrown them, but being held back left a scar that has not yet healed…… DO ANYTHING to prevent your child from going thru this public humiliation at such a young age……. seek out special tutoring programs and be willing to spend every night going over the days lessons ……. I hope you are not bound to the teachers decision……. the educators told my parents it would be the best thing for me…….. They were wrong. I now hold two degrees and have a senior management position, no thanks to being held back……

I’m pretty sure you have the final say. I’m not familiar with Kentucky laws, but I don’t think the teacher would have the final say. You should definitely consider private tutoring/advanced assistance to get your child’s reader level up, but it sounds like she should advance to the first grade; holding her back would only hinder her math skills. Good luck.

teachers must always have the parents concent but sometimes if the child is very poor in certain levels they must be held back whether the parents want them to or not…it’s kin of rare for a child to get held back in kindergarten or grade 1 but sometimes it has to be done…think of it on the bright side, your childs going to be the oldest in the class…thers something shes going to be proud of when she grows up lol…or he
