how come a lot of people think that kids who go to private school r so stuck up?

i go to private school, and cuz i do, a lot of people who go to public school think that im snobby and stuck up. i dont feel like i am but people just dont know that private school isn’t that bad. it’s just that it makes me feel bad that people think of me as a bad kid and i dont know how to figure it out. i dont want people to not like me just cuz i go to a different kind of school as they do.

I personally think that a lot of kids who go to private school do so because they are rich and can afford to do so, which is more than most people and so they are “different.” Also, usually the people who ARE more “well off” (and i.e. can therefore afford private school) are the ones who DO tend to “look down their nose” so to speak at others and patronize others, which is something no one likes to have done to them! Even just the very fact that someone does NOT go to a “normal” school but rather a private school gives those in the public school the impression that what they are doing is not “good enough” for you.

Don’t worry, I was homeschooled, so I know what it’s like to feel ostracized! Good luck! Also, a lot of people who don’t go to public school have a good reason and a noble reason for what they do!!!

That’s my opinion, anyway, for whatever it matters.

It’s just a matter of ignorance and/or jealousy…

It probably stems back to when public schools were first introduced, 150 years ago or so. Before that, the only schools were private and homeschool, and only the very wealthy were able to afford private school. This was also when many societies were still based in the mindset of “the wealthy and educated have the power”…so I guess they may have been stuck up, to some degree.

This mindset has stayed with society over the past 100 years or so; only in the last 40-50 years (post WWII) have most private schools been available to most families.

There are still some private schools where the kids are highly pampered and probably are pretty stuck up, but for the most part, this isn’t the case. My son previously attended an excellent private school – one of the best in the country, according to stats – and the kids there were some of the most friendly, outgoing, down-to-earth kids I had met up till then…and the parents were highly involved, both in their lives and in their schools.

If you get people treating you like this, feel free to call them on it – why would you judge me like that, just because I attend private school? Honestly, how would they feel if you judged them as uneducated or robotic because they don’t attend your school? (Not saying you ever would – you don’t seem like the type – just turning the tables on their mindset.)

Good luck!

I went to private school for three years and I dont think I’m stuck up. I dont even really mention private school at the public school I now go to.

I guess people assume that only rich snobby people go to private.

ok i went to private school from k-5 grade and when i stared 6th grade in a public school. I told them i went to a private school and they really didnt care. it is probably because some of them carry themseleves in a snobby way or act like they are all that and a bag a chips that is what i think .
