I’m thinking of endowing an annual prize in memory of my Mother who was tirelessly generous and hard working.

Does anyone have any experience or ideas on this? It may be something like a school prize, but what for? Not a “best essay” type prize, something that just any ordinary bog standard privileged child from a good fine home and together parents might effortlessly achieve, but something that would help lift a child out of adversity? Any experience or ideas anyone has greatly appreciated, thank you.

Contact a school your mother attended, lived by,or a school she supported, make an appointment with the counselor, principle, and or president of the PTA . They normally have existing programs and you probably don’t want to duplicate whats already being offered. If you have the time volunteer in her name and encourage others to volunteer. The volunteer with a certain amount of hours can recommend students Ex. good behavior, most improved, consideration award, the possibilities are endless. Children tend to work more diligently when a reward is offered. Maybe you can buy supplies for a teacher or program in need at a local school donate it in the name of your mother. Get a plaque made to be hung at the school or the school district.

The endowment is very generous. I am sure that it would be appreciated. You can also ask the school or school district for suggestions. Perhaps you could award it at graduation especially if in some way you designate the prize as being for a senior.

It could go to the child who the school thinks improved the most each year.

It also could be for a child who needs the money to go to college.

I think it should be like “Best Mom In the World” or something along the lines. You should also buy a nice looking necklace (doesn’t have to be diamond studded like only $10-30 range) for her. Thank her, and maybe on her b-day give her breakfast in bed….and take her out to dinner, and make her lunch. Even doing all her chores that she usually does for her, you know nice things.

It could be a “scholarship” for the most improved child. The teacher’s have to submit one entry per class and then maybe you could interview the child and then choose or just have a random choosing.
