There are a number of keys to improving academic performance, but they are all grounded in good self-discipline.

1) Know what kind of learner you are: For info on this, visit

http://library.thinkquest.org/C005704/content_hwl_learningmodalities.php3

Everyone learns in different ways. Once you know the kind of learner you are (which can be mainly 1 or more “modes”), that points the way to different study methods that can help you to improve.

2) Become a pro-active learner: For info on this, visit http://faculty.clintoncc.suny.edu/faculty/learningstyles/proactive_style.html

The key point to remember is that your education is largely determined by you, not the school, the teachers, or the books. If you have access to good schools, teachers, and books, it helps…but don’t be limited if you don’t have them.

3) Hone your study skills. For a free download of some concise study skill notes, visit http://www.neighborhoodlink.com/public/clubextraPDF.html?nclubid=893282700&nid=172382363

There are a variety of study skills in this free publication. Try them. The ones that work for you, use them to the fullest. Those that don’t, well, at least you tried to find out ways to improve your grades…which is what you asked for, right?

OK, I hope this helps you. Best wishes in your studies,

For starters, maybe you can start by rewriting and organizing you notes for your classes every night, you will be organized and in the process of rewriting and organizing notes it may help you remember. Also don’t cram. Study a little of everything every night. You will retain more information that way. Ask your teachers for pointers or extra help. Go before or after school, they are there to help you and want to see you succeed. Try finding a tutor also. Some schools have honors students that will tutor you during study halls at no cost for you. Find a study buddy, have a family member quiz you before tests or quizes. Get enough sleep and make sure you eat right. Good luck

Some classes have easy syllabi, like, for example, if you takes notes in class, they count for a percentage of your grade. All you would have to do is take notes. Take a look at your syllabus to see if it offers you anything, like extra credit work, what counts the biggest for tests, etc. Before tests come up, set up a study schedule so you’re not cramming five minutes before the tests last minute. If you’re someone who doesn’t concentrate well while studying, don’t turn on music or the TV. Don’t spend too much time on one subject, but multitask and change them out a bit. Sometimes all you need is to ask the teacher, ‘what can I do to help improve my grade?’ and they will offer you anything from make-up quizzes to extra homework to help make sure you understand the subject.

It depends how much effort you put in. If you keep it up on the 80+ subject, while managing your time to get your other subjects better, you should be able to do it.

If you’re struggling in a subject or topic, stay behind after class and ask the teacher to go over it with you again, they’ll be more than happy!

Hope this helps,

John 😉

To add to dominion’s answer, study, and study even more. Ask for help. You also need to get enough sleep so that you can retain information. It is going to take a lot of work, so the entertainment, what ever that is needs to be set aside.
