Do you thing that this is right?? For kids in a school, grades Pre-k through Grade 1 to NOT be able to…?

bring their own lunch from home?? They are only allowed ot eat the lunch provided by the school, which is not eaten my many of the kids because it isn’t satisfactory. My brother attends a Catholic School in the Bronx and this year in first grade, the princple is not allowing Pre-K through 1st grade to bring home lunch. For the upper grades she is only allowing sandwiches. Please if you feel this is wrong answer back so something can be done. It is not right for little kids who need the most nutrition to be deprived of good healthy food because the principle just wants to make money when she askes for money in plenty of other ways. Something NEEDS to be done and you can help.

It’s wrong, but it happens lots of places.

When my step-sister was in a private school, the kids weren’t allowed to bring a lunch from home, but for different reasons. It was because many parents packed unhealthy lunches, such as chips and cookies, etc.

But, the way to get around it was to bring a doctor’s note approving the packed lunch. The packed lunch had to be the same every day and had to include: a sandwich, a fruit, a healthier dessert (like animal cookies or pudding), juice/water, and a veggie (carrot sticks, etc). When the parent brought the child in the morning, the lunch had to be checked to make sure it included everything.

This is a baddd idea, kids these day’s need less and less of food from schools and fast food. The obsiety rate has shot up so high its unbelievable.

I think that you should send a petition around with the parents and even teachers and get it done the right way, if kids are not allowed to bring lunch from home, how many kids do you think might not even eat at all.

Especially at such a young age since little kids are soo picky about their food.

I hope everthing works out okay

Good luck

The principal will probably claim that home lunch is not nutritious, inadequate lunch storage facilities, it gets lost or misplaced frequently, spoils due to heat and other factors and causes problems since some students prefer their neighbors lunch rather than ther own.

There is some merit to all those claims. Be prepared to answer them.

You can stress the items that you mentioned in your question as well as that the school should engage in a nutrition program for both students and parents. Certainly a meal that is not eaten can’t be very nutritious. You might do better in your meeting with the principal if several parents who feel the way that you do went with you to the meeting.

Well I’m not exactly sure if it’s normal but I remember in 2nd grade I had a boyfriend and we talked from 3-5 hours a day on the phone and were flirting and such in school. So I think maybe it’s normal

When I taught Kindergarten the preschoolers and kindergartners where all provided lunches. The families didn’t pay for the meals, it was a lower income area and they where very healthy meals. A menu was sent home at the beginning of every month and if there was something a child couldn’t eat because of food allergies then the kitchen prepared something else for them.

Hi! Is this even LEGAL???? I’ve never in my life heard of something so crazy!!! My son won’t even touch the school lunches, even though he’s paid up for the year to receive them!!! Not only that, it’s too expensive for the school lunches and most of the time they are crap!

Can you possibly go to the school board with other parents and complain about this at a PTA meeting????

Yea, this is wrong…you should go to the school superintendent or the school board. Does a catholic school have a school district, or is it a parochial district? that would be where you would take your complaint to. Also, what is the reasoning the principal gives for doing this? You got to remember the school is dependent on the students, not the other way.
